Lamb Beer and Cricket

Perhaps I should call it by its more formal name, Australia Day. The day of a nation, were we celebrate by listing to music, going to parties, drinking, eating, swimming and playing cricket.

Australia day in Antarctica is no different. The day started with a lazy morning hot brekkie at 10am, followed by a lecture from out Doc on swimming in cold water, and also letting us know the wind was to high, and that we would have to wait till it dies down before we could go for a swim.

The wind died and we went for a swim, and it was cold. I mean very cold. it was so cold that it was not possible to last more than 30 seconds in the water, except for time who seemed to love it.

After the swim we all warmed up with a hot shower and then kicked of with triple J’s hottest 100, which we had streaming in from Australia along with big speakers on the beach.

While this was going on out chefs Kim and Squeeze were putting the final touches on lunch of spit roast lamb, sausages and lamingtons. Ok, there was a bit more to it than that, bit that sounds more Australian.

After lunch it was time for some beach cricket. Wal and Mat rolled the pitch flat, Dr Mad prepared read the rules as umpire, then the match began.

After the match we wound down with the final stages of the hottest 100, then all went inside to warm up for the afternoon.
